Minecraft

Minecraft is the 2nd best-selling video game ever, and popular worldwide among youth. The open-world nature of the game lends itself perfectly to creative collaboration, problem-solving and endless possibilities. Anything is possible with Minecraft.

Why Minecraft?

KIMCpgY
Flexible. Familiar. Freedom

Minecraft’s sandbox environment lends itself perfectly for engaging and fun ways to learn. The game brings the curriculum to students in an environment which many of them are already very familiar with and love.

The freedom the game offers makes it very a very flexible but immersive learning experience, which teachers around the world are taking advantage of.The game has both creativity and science embedded into the game through its simplistic nature consisting of only blocks, and some of the more complex mechanics and tools that are available in the game.

Playful Learning

Many of the teachers we have talked to about Minecraft in Education reported much greater classroom satisfaction, and most importantly: students were much more eager to learn and often picked up the core ideas of a lesson without even knowing it! Reportedly, feedback given through Minecraft was picked up and applied much more easily than in a traditional classroom environment.

The main reasons for this are:

  • Minecraft is a social environment where kids can learn together and compete.
  • Feedback is much more direct in Minecraft. Often when a student does something that’s incorrect, the game will immediately let you know, thus allowing for students to learn from their mistakes much faster.
  • The game is immersive. Students get engaged with the game and devote more attention to the learning environment than in a traditional classroom setting.
  • Achievements are often public, which causes for more competition, which in turn motivates students to perform better than their peers

In short: Minecraft’s interactive, engaging and collaborative nature lends itself perfectly for educational means.
